About this site

The Shed In BFE is a self-hosted independent publication launched in October 2024 by Jeff Downing. The goal of this instance is to make everything self-hosted, ad free, and as far removed from any pay wall as possible, so subscriptions will not be a thing.

In return, I want absolutely nothing, though I do appreciate you and if you want to cross post any of these, I won't stop you. ;)

Note: This content will always be free and be available as long as the servers are up (hurricanes and power outages notwithstanding).

Comments

Chances are high that comments will remain disabled, but there's a reason for that. If you want to talk about an article, post it on Bluesky and/or hit me up at Bluesky to talk about them. There's no need to do it here really, its just a blog engine in the middle of nowhere. Actually, you're lucky you found it.

Writers

Because this is self-hosted, uncensored, and on commodity private hardware, the option to arbitrarily allow new authors to join this instance is disabled. If you do, however, feel like just absolutely must write on this instance, you can email me at [email protected] and ask. If you need a place to be creative, express yourself and have fun, I guess it's ok.

No Spam

This server does not email regardless of what some themes put on the title screen. There will be no spam coming from it. If you tried to sign up on the title screen, it most likely went into the void. I don't keep the addresses.

Who Is This For?

Good question. I think it's really for anyone who just wants to be creative and share. Noone is seeking fame, riches or algorithmic popularity here. As a matter of fact, increasing traffic to this site is probably a bad then as it means I will have to move it to Amazon or Digital Ocean where charges will need to occur.
